Immersed in Thought or Lonely, 1890, oil on canvas by Jakub Schikaneder, 1855-1924, Czechoslovakian artist.
This woman is not only thoughtful and/or lonely, she is grief-stricken. It can be assumed someone very close to her has died. This scene has been given a very weak title with the evidence we see. Everything about it is bleak and sad. The painting is stark in its simplicity. It is the end of the day and the end of the year and all points to loss.
This work is in the National Gallery in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
