1.   St. Giles - His Bells. Spirits are painted in the night sky around St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh by Charles Altamont Doyle, British, 1832-1893.
  Doyle, a watercolorist and illustrator, populated his night sky with heroes and villains. He illustrated John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress and was father to novelist and Sherlock Holmes creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
 Charles Doyle, who continued to create fantastical forms and strange dream paintings, died of epilepsy in a lunatic asylum.
